SOP FOR CALIBRATION OF GLASSWARE

  1. OBJECTIVE:

    1. To lay down the procedure for Calibration of Glassware

  2. SCOPE

    1. This procedure is applicable for the Calibration of Glassware being used in Quality Control Laboratory.

  3. RESPONSIBILITY:

    1. Quality Control Officer / Executive are responsible to follow procedure as per the procedure mentioned in this SOP.

    2. QC Head is responsible for implementation and compliance of the procedure as per this SOP.

  4. ABBREVIATIONS

    1. SOP    :    Standard Operating Procedure

    2. QC    :    Quality Control

  5. PROCEDURE

    1. All the glassware employed for use in the QC laboratory is of class A.

    2. Class B glassware shall be calibrated by using double distilled water.

    3. Clean the glassware to be calibrated with chromic acid solution followed by distilled water and dry in the oven.

    4. After drying take the initial weight of the glassware as W1and fill with distilled water up to the mark and take the final weight W2.

    5. Calculate the difference between the final and initial weights and convert it into volume by using the following formula V = W1-W2 / D

           where,

V = Volume of the water

W1 = Initial weight of the Glassware

W2 = Final weight of the Glassware

    D =  Density of the water at 25ºC i.e., 0.997.

    1. Record the calibration details in Calibration Record of Glassware (Annexure I).
